A series of intensive fast-track summer workshops are being held in Brixham for people who want to start their own businesses. The free Outset Torbay Introduction to Enterprise programme will take place over four days, Monday 30 July, Tuesday 21 July, Thursday 2 August and Friday 3 August at Brixham’s Lupton House.
The Outset Torbay programme, funded by Torbay Development Agency and European Regional Development Fund will help develop people’s skills and confidence to start their own business, and will cover essential topics including business awareness, finance and risk, customers and competitors, and business feasibility.
Irene Wilson, Enterprise Advisor in Brixham for Outset Torbay says: “These free workshops are a great opportunity for anyone thinking about starting their own business. You don’t even need to have a business idea at the start, but hopefully by undertaking the sessions, people will find out whether self-employment is right for them, and can gain further to support from Outset Torbay to launch and grow their business.”
Brixham resident, Sophie Bower, joined Outset Torbay’s intensive start-up programme of workshops earlier this year, before going on to open her own coffee shop and events catering business, ‘Millie and Me’ in King Street. She said: “We literally would not be where are now without the support of Outset Torbay. The encouragement and advice, particularly around finances, was perfectly aimed at our level, so it was easy to understand and follow. The sessions were also fun and enabled us to get to know other new businesses and network.”

Outset Torbay has already supported 160 people in Brixham, since its launch in October 2010, helping to create 20 new businesses for the town.
