Outset Torbay sponsors Hele Clean Up Day

Come and join Hele’s Angels for the Big Tidy Up

Volunteers are needed for another Big Tidy Up being undertaken through the Hele’s Angels neighbourhood management scheme.

Sponsored by Outset Torbay, a spring clean of Hele Road, Orchard Close and Pendennis will be taking place on Saturday 22 Jan between 10am-4pm.

The event has been organised by Hele’s Angels supported by Torbay Council, Tor2, Street Wardens and Riviera Housing Trust, Upton Vale Baptist Church and Community Payback, as part of the Nationwide Big Tidy Up scheme.

The Big Tidy Up will clear items caused by fly-tipping such as sofas, fridges, freezers and general litter dumped in communal and surrounding areas.

Representatives from Outset Torbay will be assisting on the day, and will be on hand to help to talk to anyone who is interested in becoming self employed.

Cllr Louisa Aiton, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Community Engagement, said: “This is a great example of how communities can work together.  As the first neighbourhood management scheme in Torbay, Hele’s Angels, gives residents more influence on local services including those provided by the council, care trust, police, fire & rescue, and community and voluntary organisations.

“The scheme aims to bring together all the different organisations to act on the concerns of residents to help address local problems such as crime, anti-social behaviour, poor health, activities for children and teenagers and employment opportunities.”

Programme Director for Outset Torbay, Helen Harman, said: “We are delighted to sponsor an event promoting a healthier and cleaner environment that allows communities to build and thrive.  As a project working to support people in starting up their own business in Torbay, we will be there on the day to help with the tidy up and to talk to anyone who is looking to become self-employed.”

A spokesperson for Riviera Housing Trust said:  “The Big Tidy Up is a fantastic project that Riviera is proud to support and we are delighted to join forces with the council to ensure it is as successful as possible.

“The project will not only help the environment but is also the ideal occasion to bring the community together, and we would encourage as many people as possible to join in.”

Teams will be collecting all unwanted household goods, large or small on Hele Road and Orchard Close between 2pm-4pm. If you residents have anything they would like to dispose of they need to contact Hele’s Angels to book a slot by 1pm on Saturday.

Skips will be placed around the Pendennis area on Friday 21 only, any items big or small welcomed.  Help is available for anyone who cannot lift or move heavy items on Saturday.

Staff will be on hand to direct residents where to take their household goods, however if they would like further information please call Hele’s Angels on 01803 312808 or 324323.

Litter picking packs and refreshments will be available from the Windmill Centre on the day, for volunteers.
