Successful entrepreneur and ex Dragon’s Den panelist, Doug Richard, has said that small businesses are key to South West economic revival.
The business leader, who led the Torbay Development Agency’s 21st Century Business event in Torbay said “It’s well known that small businesses create more jobs in the UK than the large corporates – and more support needs to be given to them. The emphasis on their role in the UK’s economic recovery has been greatly underplayed.”
“Companies like the ones I have met in Torquay really are the key to economic revival.”
Over 300 delegates, including local business start-ups, attended free the one-day event on 8 Feburary. Business mentor Doug Richard talked about his own experiences and challenges as an entrepreneur, and shared his ten questions that start-ups must address for their survival and growth.
Advisors from local business start-up support programme, Outset Torbay, were also on hand to talk to delegates about the free business support available in Torbay.
Claire Landricombe, Marketing Manager at Outset Torbay said “It’s a tough climate to start and grow a business. Doug Richard captivated the audience, sharing tried and tested principles for business success. This free event is a great example of the Torbay Development Agency’s commitment to supporting businesses in Torbay. ”
